Choir of the West: "God is Our Refuge"
November 30, 2005

Classic choral concert and church favorites performed by the Choir of the West are now available on compact disc. Conducted by Kathryn Lehmann, the choir’s presentation of “God is Our Refuge” also includes a new composition by Richard Nance.
The new piece by Nance, “Psalm 36,” was written in memory of his colleague James Holloway. Other selections are offered as a gift of support and faith in response to the 9/11 attacks, the war in Iraq and the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Lehmann said.
“Our campus community has had many challenges over the past four years and in the choral department we have lost friends, colleagues and family members,” Lehmann wrote in liner notes. “We have tried to give strength and support to the PLU extended family through our music making.
“As we sing, we too are uplifted by the words and music on this new CD.”
The CD is available for $14.95 at the PLU Bookstore, PLU Northwest and on-line at luteworld.plu.edu/.
The Choir of the West performs in concerts on campus, travels annually to Portland and Seattle performing a Christmas concert series and undertakes an annual tour, often visiting distant cultural centers in the U.S. and Europe. The choir regularly joins the University Symphony Orchestra in performances of major choral/orchestral works.
