Making a splash with online journalism
May 11, 2009

PLU senior Nate Hulings has received a first place award for online editorial writing in the national Society of Professional Journalism's Mark of Excellence Awards - which recognizes collegiate work, published or broadcast, in 2008.
Hulings took first place in online commentary.
Earlier this month, the PLU media group had quite a strong showing at this year’s Society of Professional Journalism’s regional awards.
Again, Hulings received two first place prizes for online reporting (Tacoma family rejoices; reflects after historic election) and column writing, fellow senior Morgan Root received a second place showing for online reporting (Reporting about sex in high school) and first-year student Ted Charles received a second and third place for photography (right).
Along with the individual winners, KCNS was recognized with a second place showing for its weekly newscast.
In addition to the exciting recognition of PLU students, the splash PLU students made as online journalists is a great accomplishment and several advisers from larger institutions were very impressed by the awards garnered for PLU Webnews, said Professor Joanne Lisosky.
