FLaSh-es of inspiration in five languages
May 04, 2009
The Hong International Film Festival returns with a new name – the FLaSh Film Festival – to showcase the achievements of students in PLU’s 300-level language courses.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, the PLU community and the general public are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Foreign Language Film Festival in the Mount Tahoma Auditorium of the Washington State History Museum in downtown Tacoma.
The new name “is both an acronym for Foreign-Language Shorts and a nod to the creative spark that is at the heart of the festival’s entries each year,” explained Mark Jensen, Chair of PLU’s Department of Languages and Literatures.
Films will be presented in Chinese, French, German, Norwegian and Spanish, and will run for 7-10 minutes each. All films are subtitled in English.
Immediately following the festival screening on May 6, judges’ votes will be tallied and awards given to recognize the top three films. One or more Judges’ Discretionary Awards will also recognize special achievements. Finally, as in previous years, audience members will select the winner of the “People’s Choice Award.”
The History Museum is located at 1911 Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the films will begin at 7:15. For additional information, contact Professor Kirsten Christensen at kmc@plu.edu pr 253-535-8775.
