Making Earth Day last

April 27, 2009
Making Earth Day last

Even though Earth Week events wrapped-up this week, being good environmental stewards is just heating up.

“I think Earth Day now is a celebration of all the good work that goes on throughout the year,” said Monika Maier, co-president of the GREAN Club.

Plus it’s a good time to start thinking about new ways to help the environment, she added.

With so many events going on throughout the week, from lectures to film viewings and block-parties, there were also plenty of reminders that there is more that can be done.

Volunteers also spent their time Sunday cleaning-up Parkland.

At LollaPLUza the GREAN Club started a conducting a survey to see if it’s feasible to make a bigger dent in recycling glass – many local waste disposal providers don’t pick-up glass for recycling anymore.

“That’s a big thing we want to tackle,” Maier said.

That will probably be for next school year though, she said. With commencement only a month away smaller projects and events are more realistic.

There should be a few more Take Back the Tap events this year.
