The awards keep coming

Last week, sure was a whirlwind of awards news for the PLU community.

A variety of universality departments, organizations and affiliations were honored for the contributions they made to their respective fields.

MediaLab receives Grand Prize

The MediaLab’s most recent film “Illicit Exchanges: Canadam the U.S. and Crime,” won the First Place Grand Prize Award from the National Broadcasting Society. This is the second national award for this project from student researchers/producers Melissa Campbell, Julie Olds and Shannon Schrecengost.

Math students earn Meritorious Award

This past February, at the 25th Annual Mathematical Modeling Contest a student team of Daniel Case, Joshua Dearth and Aaron Mosher took home the Meritorious Award. More than 1,600 teams participated this year, with only the top 18 percent receiving the Meritorious Award.

MFT cleans-up at WAMFT’s annual awards banquet

At this year’s Washington Association for Marriage and Family Therapyannual awards banquet, the PLU program received several recognitions including Assistant Professor David Ward as Educator of the Year, Colleen Quitslund as Student of the Year, Ranell Wampler received the Editor’s Choice Award and two PLU students were among the recipients of the first WAMFT scholarships – Suzanne Burgoyne and Allison Huffman.

KPLU’s “Impact of War” series wins national award

KPLU won the 2008 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service in Radio Journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists. This is the first time KPLU has won a national SPJ award. The award is for KPLU’s five-part series, “The Impact of War on Children,” produced by KPLU Education reporters Chana Joffee-Walt and Jennifer Wing and edited by former NPR Senior Edior Vicky O’Hara.
