Get ready for your Hebrew Idol Final

Get ready for your Hebrew Idol Final

The votes are in, the finalists have been named and seven guest judges are busy making the final adjustments to their Biblical costumes.

“It’s been quite a ride,” said Tony Finitsis, assistant professor of religion. “Now the only thing that is left is to put on the show.”

The “show” he is talking about is the 2009 PLU Hebrew Idol finale. Earlier this semester 12 student produced videos telling stories from the Hebrew Bible, but in contemporary times were posted online for Finitsis’ class, Religion 211: Religion and Literature of the Hebrew Bible. Students were asked to vote on their favorite (more than 100 did).

Like Finitsis said, all that’s left is to crown a winner from the top three at the PLU Hebrew Final from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16 in Admin 101.

Even though the votes are in the excitement certainly doesn’t stop, Finitsis said. For one the seven guest judges, who are PLU and visiting faculty, will be dressed as Biblical themes or characters. And no one besides the individual judge knows what they’ll show-up in

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how the judges pull it off,” Finitsis said.

The judges will come as the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, the Second Plague of Egypt, Sodom and Gomorrah, Samson, Delilah and Tamar.

This year was also a close race, with a single vote separating fourth place and the third finalist spot for several videos.

The final three videos, in no particular order, are Real World Ninevah: All is Fair in Love and War, Hebrew Bible Diaries: Samson, Arrogance of Man.

Along with one winner being announced, PLU’s Saxophone quartette will participate and a PLU Hebrew Idol Hall-of-Fame will be introduced.
