Spring State Farm MBA Executive Leadership Series

This spring, Pacific Lutheran University will host the State Farm MBA Executive Leadership Series featuring business leaders from around the world.
Students, alumni and friends of the community are invited to join PLU for an exciting series of speakers coming to PLU. The MBA program at PLU is fundamentally focused on developing dynamic leaders in the global business environment. Because of this, part of the mission of the School of Business is to bring to campus those who can share their experiences and expertise to help guide and shape the future leaders of our communities.
Next up, Tomoko Moriguchi Matsuno, the CEO of Uwajimaya Inc., will speak from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 9 in room 103 of the Morken Center at PLU.
Matsuno was appointed CEO of Uwajimaya, Inc. in 2007. Prior to her promotion, Matsuno was Executive Vice President of Retail and a leader of Uwajimaya’s award winning Uwajimaya Asian Markets. She joined Uwajimaya following a career as a commercial artist in San Francisco.
In 2007, Matsuno was recognized as one of the top women in the grocery industry by Progressive Grocer.
Matsuno’s parents founded Uwajimaya in 1928. She grew up helping at the family’s Uwajimaya Market at 4th and Main Street in Seattle’s Nihonmachi (Japan Town). In the family tradition, Matsuno has a long history of volunteerism. Currently, Matsuno is board president of One Reel, a board member of Montessori Learning Tree School, and a board member of the Bullitt Foundation. Previously, she was a board member of the Seattle Children’s Theater, the Seattle Chinatown- International District Preservation and Development Authority, and the International Special Review District. Matsuno has been an active volunteer with Nikkei Concerns for many years.
Matsuno is a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
