PLU Alumni works are set to be published
February 06, 2009
Jennifer Culkin (2007) and Holly J. Hughes (2006) have both participated in Pacific Lutheran University’s MFA program, and are now celebrating their recent successes.
Culkin, a graduate of the Ranier Writing Workshop at PLU, has just finished her book, “A Final Arc of the Sky: A memoir of Critical Care.” The book introduces the reader to her experiences as a critical care and emergency flight nurse, where she fights to keep critically injured patients alive.
Culkin was also a recipient of a 2008 Rona Jaffe Foundation Award.
Hughes, also a graduate of PLU’s MFA program, has just completed editing “Beyond Forgetting,” a collection of poetry and short prose about Alzheimer’s disease written by 100 contemporary writers. The writers include doctors, nurses, social workers, hospice workers, daughters, sons, wives and husbands whose lives have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
Both Culkin and Hughes’ works are set to be released soon. Culkin’s book may be preordered here, and Hughes’ book may be preordered here.
