Department of Languages and Literatures presents “Souls without Borders”

January 30, 2009

The 2009 Spring Film Festival Series will feature the documentary “Souls without Borders: The Untold Story of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade,” shown in conjunction with Spanish 323 – Civilization and Culture of Spain.

“Souls without Borders,” will be shown at 6 p.m. March 13 in Room 100 of PLU’s Ingram Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

The film focuses on the approximately 2,800 young Americans that volunteered to defend Spain in the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. These people were known as the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, and the remaining twelve members offer their perspectives throughout the film.

This special screening will be introduced by Anthony L. Geist, Professor of Spanish and Comparative Literature and Chair of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle. A question and answer session with Geist will follow the presentation of the documentary.
