The 35th Annual Walter C. Schnackenberg Memorial Lecture

The 35th Annual Walter C. Schnackenberg Memorial Lecture starts at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 17 in the Scandinavian Cultural Center in the UC. The program will feature a lecture by Joshua Fogel, Canada Research Chair at York University in Toronto.
Fogel has been Canada Research Chair at York University in Toronto since 2005. His scholarship focuses especially on the history of Sino-Japanese cultural relations. He has published five single-author books. In addition, he has translated thirteen books for publication in English.
Fogel majored in Chinese history at the University of Chicago and earned his M.A. in History, East Asian Institute Certificate, and Ph.D. in History at Columbia University. After earning tenure and promotion at Harvard, he moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he taught from 1989-2005. He has also been a visiting professor at Kyoto University and the Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton.
The program is presented by the Department of History.
