Holiday events, activities at PLU

The PLU campus offers a wide variety of holiday activities, from lighting up Red Square to the annual Nordic Christmasfest.

Fantasy Lights sponsored by the Garfield Book Company

Come to the Garfield Book Company from 4 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday from Dec. 2 to Dec. 30 for Garfield Business Association Night at Fantasy Lights.

Discount tickets to Fantasy Lights are available for $10. Customers are also invited to enter a coloring contest and enjoy free hot cocoa or apple cider.

Light Up Red Square

The lighting of Red Square is scheduled from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The event is a PLU tradition in which the whole community gathers to sing holiday songs and see the lighting of the Christmas tree, the Harstad Star and several other holiday symbols.

KPLU-FM Christmas Jam

Come enjoy a Christmas jam jazz concert from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 in the Mary Baker Russell Music Center, Lagerquist Concert Hall.

2008 Annual Sankta Lucia Fest

The annual Swedish Sankta Lucia Fest will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 in the Mary Baker Russell Lagerquist Hall.

A reception following the Sankta Lucia Fest will be held in the Scandinavian Cultural Center. Refreshments will be served; there will be dancing around the Christmas tree and a visit from Swedish Jultomten.

Wondrous Child: A Pacific Lutheran University Christmas Celebration

PLU’s popular Christmas concerts return with performances that include joyous anthems, carols and more from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 in Olson Auditorium.

The concert will include performances by the Choir of the West, University Chorale and members of the University Symphony Orchestra. The concert will include musical selections, narration and audience participation.

Richard Nance, Brian Galante and Johnathan Pasternack will conduct the concert. Tickets for the event are $20 for general admission; tickets are $15 for senior citizens, PLU community and alumni.

Just for Kids: Jan Brett Christmas

Come bring the kids to a very special Jan Brett Christmas from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18 in the Garfield Book Company Community Room and the fireside lounge.

Celebrate the holidays with activities from Hedgie, Gingerbread Baby and all your favorite Jan Brett characters.

2008 Annual Nordic Christmasfest

The annual Nordic Christmas celebrations will be from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20 in the Scandinavian Cultural Center.

There will be fantastic food and outstanding entertainment.

Reservations are required. Tickets for the event are $35 for SCC members and $40 for non-members.
