Economics students are first in new Fed Reserve

November 13, 2008

Earlier this month, PLU students were the first from the public to tour the brand new Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco branch in Renton.

Associate Professor of Economics Karen Travis and Visiting Professor of Economics Jawad Salimi accompanied 24 economics students to see the inter workings of cash operations for the San Francisco Fed region, which consists of nine states.

The students were able to view sorting, including currency destruction, as well as processing of currency for delivery to banks.

The group was also treated to a viewing of the inside of the actual vault, which had millions upon millions of dollars in it.

Travis said the group was able to take part in the unique and exciting experience thanks to Mark Gould ‘91, the Senior VP of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
