Film explores the impact that media has on women of color

Pacific Lutheran University will be hosting a free screening of the documentary “The Souls of Black Girls.” The viewing will take place Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in Ingram 100. Following the film, there will be a discussion led by filmmaker Daphne Valerius and PLU staff members.

“The Souls of Black Girls,” will feature interviews with young women reflecting on their perceptions of media images and the impact of these on their self-image. It will also include interviews from Gwen Ifill, Chuck D, Michaela Angela Davis and popular actresses Regina King and Jada Pinkett Smith.

This screening is sponsored by PLU’s MediaLab and the Office of Admission. It is also supported by the Women’s Center, College Success Foundation Hero Program, ASPLU, Diversity Center and the Black Student Union.
