Rarely performed piece scheduled at PLU
October 03, 2008
The PLU Symphony will be playing a rarely performed composition at its first concert of the fall season at 8 p.m. on Oct 14. The Bach Concerto for orchestra and 4 Keyboards was originally written as part of Bach's programming for Zimmerman's Coffee House and Beer Garden. With that in mind, the concerto is not a serious work. It's more like watching four very good tennis players play a fast game of doubles with notes being batted from one keyboard to another.
There is a surprise in the middle movement that sounds contemporary, as if Phillip Glass did some time traveling and tampered with Bach's manuscript.
The concert will take place at the Lagerquist Concert Hall, MBR Music Center. Tickets cost $8 for general admission, $5 for seniors, $3 for alumni and it is free to students and the PLU community. For more information on tickets, call 253-535-7787 or go to the music events page.
