Lecture looks at Christian ethics and biological diversity

Kevin O’Brien, an assistant professor in religion, will be talking about what can be learned from the Earth’s diversity in his lecture: “The Difference Nature Makes: What we can learn about Christian ethics from the Earth’s biological diversity.” His talk will take place Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nordquist Lecture Hall in Xavier Hall.
O’Brien is assistant professor of Christian Ethics in the Religion Department at PLU. He holds a MA from Union Theological Seminary and the Ph.D. from Emory University. While he teaches a variety of courses in ethics, Dr. O’Brien specializes in environmental ethics and is an active contributor to PLU’s Environmental Studies Program. His most recent publications include “Thinking Globally and Thinking Locally: Ecology, Subsidiary, and a Multiscalar Environmentalism,” in The Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture (2008), and “Toward an Ethics of Biodiversity: Science and Theology in Environmentalist Dialogue,” in Ecospirit (2007).
