Display on freedom includes mock presidential ballot.

September 19, 2008

Mortvedt Library is holding a display presented as part of the September Project. Started on Sept. 11, the display will wrap up on Oct. 24. It features information and issues surrounding this year’s presidential race between Democratic nominee Barack Obama and his Republican challenger John McCain.

The display features an unofficial ballot box. Ballots will be counted and announced on Oct. 24.

Started in 2004, the September Project is a grassroots effort to encourage a discussion of freedom and democracy in all libraries in all countries during the month of September. When the project began, the idea was to break the silence following the Sept. 11 attacks, and to invite all people into libraries to consider topics of patriotism, democracy, and citizenship.

Initially, events focused on Sept. 11 and largely took place on that date. As the project evolved, events spread throughout the month of September.
