Olson receives some TLC
September 05, 2008

The floors of Olson Auditorium will gleam this fall, as the school finished up a summer renovation of the building which included sanding down and resurfacing the floors – while redrawing the basketball three-point line to meet with new athletic regulations. The building also boasts new bleachers and a refurbishing the women’s locker room. And a ramp was added to the main stage to make it handicapped accessible.
“The floor really hadn’t been sanded down since the 1990s and it had all the nicks and the old PLU logo on it,” said Laurie Turner, athletic director. “The work has brightened up the floor tremendously.”
This round of renovations, which is set to be completed by PLU’s Homecoming in October, also includes improvements to both the men’s and the women’s locker room, she added. Changes you’ll see in the locker rooms include private showers, instead of open bay formats, new tiles, new plumbing (hopefully you won’t notice this), new team rooms as well as new lockers.
In all the renovations cost about $217,000. Some of the money came through alumni as well as the Names family, Turner said.
