Journalism students top in the region
August 28, 2008
For the fourth year in a row, PLU’s student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists was named the “outstanding campus chapter” for the region.
PLU’s region, Region 10, includes student chapters for the University of Washington, Washington State University, University of Oregon and several smaller schools. The award honors the student chapter in each region that has been most in service to the society, their campus and the journalism profession.
This marks the fifth time in seven years that the PLU chapter earned the honor. Last year, the PLU chapter was also named the national chapter of the year.
The 12 other regional recipients included Ithaca College, University of Florida, Iowa State University and University of Arizona. From that group, Indiana University, Bloomington, was selected for the national honor.
The regional awards will be presented at individual regional meetings on Sept. 5 during the 2008 Society of Professional Journalists Convention and National Journalism Conference in Atlanta.
