Improved jazz webstream reaches world audience
July 10, 2008

The new incarnation of Jazz24, KPLU’s jazz webstream, features a unique blend of world-class jazz 24 hours a day, and brings jazz to a global audience.
The webstream has been rated number one worldwide, according to Webcast Metrics, which measures online radio listeners, and it’s been consistently ranked in the top 20 online radio streams. Jazz24 garners 85 percent of its audience from outside the Puget Sound area, including listeners in all 50 states and in 135 countries.
Humorous sound bits punctuate the repertoire of Jazz24, and KPLU on-air personalities present the songs. And unlike the previous webstream, the new and improved Jazz24 doesn’t include National Public Radio news and underwriting, and the content is independently programmed.
“Jazz24 has been described as ‘pleasantly eclectic,’” said Joey Cohn, KPLU and Jazz24 program director. “Our listeners love the variety of artists and styles they hear on the channel.”
In addition to the 24-hour jazz stream, Jazz24’s Web site provides a “now playing” feature, a playlist, links to KPLU’s live studio sessions and concerts, and the new NPR Music Web site that features content contributed by KPLU.
Jazz24 is featured on Windows Media player and iTunes, and it can also be heard on KPLU’s second HD radio channel.
