Education professor named to editorial board
June 13, 2008
Education professor Kent Gerlach has been named to the editorial advisory board of Thompson’s Title I Monitor.
The monthly publication focuses exclusively on the federal Title I compensatory education program, which is the largest source of federal assistance for elementary and secondary education.
Gerlach, an expert on paraprofessional issues, is the only board member from higher education and will serve a two-year term. The 14-member board is responsible for critiquing and advising the publication.
A member of PLU’s faculty since 1980, Gerlach has achieved national recognition for his research, writing and other work on issues involving the employment, supervision and training of paraeducators. He teaches courses on child abuse, neglect and special education, and serves on the graduate education faculty.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, his master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and his Doctor of Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
