Summertime fitness at PLU

May 16, 2008

Get in shape this summer with the Fit Club and Tai Chi classes.

The Fit Club will combine cardio and strength exercises for a total body workout. Under the guidance of SIL’s Allison Stephens, activities will include cycling, walking, running and jumping, along with lunges, squats, weights, resistance bands, yoga and pilates.

All fitness levels are encouraged to join. Each exercise can be adjusted to individual fitness levels.

The Fit Club will meet Mondays, from June 2 through August 25. Class runs from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at Names Fitness Center. The cost to participate is $20. Only 20 spots are available.

Tai Chi classes introduced this spring will continue through the summer. Taught by political science professor Sid Olufs, the class meets Tuesdays from May 20 to August 26. The 40-minute classes begin at 12:05 p.m. and are free. Class will be held outside as the weather permits.

The classes are designed for people who have never studied Tai Chi with a teacher. Olufs is an instructor at Tai Chi and Qigong Wellness in Tacoma. For more information click here.
