Fruit festivals return June 18

May 16, 2008

The annual fruit festivals kick off June 18 with the Strawberry Fruit Festival and a performance by Seattle vocal band The Coats.

The a cappella quartet began singing for tourists on the street corners of Pike Place Market in Seattle to earn a few extra bucks. The side job quickly evolved into a full-time career and the quartet has since won national vocal competitions, sang for the President of the United States and shared the stage with the likes of Trisha Yearwood, The Beach Boys and Ronnie Milsap.

The Raspberry Fruit Festival on July 16 features The Islanders steel drum band, and the Blueberry Fruit Festival on August 13 features the Afrodisciacs, a 70s disco band.

The fruit festivals begin at 11:30 a.m. in Red Square and include a fruit-themed treat. Dessert is free with a PLU I.D. and costs $2.50 without one. The entertainment is free.
