Film examines hate crimes post-9/11
April 11, 2008
MediaLab will host a premiere screening of the documentary film “A Dream in Doubt” on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in room 100 of Ingram Hall.
The story of immigrant survival, the film examines hate crimes targeting Sikh Americans living in Phoenix after 9/11. The first hate-based murder victim was a turbaned Sikh man in Mesa, Ariz., where he and his family sought religious freedom and the American Dream. The film follows his family, determined to still believe in that dream even as the climate of xenophobia and fear continues.
The 57-minute film is a part of a monthly series that preview Independent Television Service (ITVS) documentaries before they are broadcast on PBS-member stations across the country.
The event is free and open to the public. It is presented by ITVS Community Cinema Tacoma, KCTS-TV in Seattle and PLU’s MediaLab, a student-led organization within the School of Arts and Communication.
