Earthquake drill tests PLU’s emergency preparedness
April 04, 2008
The annual earthquake drill is slated for Tuesday, April 22 at 9:40 a.m.
The drill is part of a statewide earthquake drill that same day, and PLU is required to participate as part of the university’s emergency preparedness program. The exercise will also assess PLU’s preparedness for an earthquake and identify opportunities for improvement.
Employee volunteers are being sought to help with the drill from 9 to 10 a.m. Those interested can contact Jennifer Wamboldt, Emergency Programs Manager, at ext. 6042 or wamboljm@plu.edu.
During an actual earthquake, remember to “Drop, Cover and Hold.” Drop to the floor when the ground begins to shake, and take cover under or beside a sturdy piece of furniture or against an inside wall, protecting your head and neck with your arms. Stay in that position until the shaking stops.
When the shaking stops, check yourself and others for injuries, exit the building and head for an emergency assembly point. Make sure to report your status to the emergency building coordinator before leaving the area.
