Local author, athlete and world traveler Michael Collins will discuss his life and writing on April 10 at 6 p.m. at Garfield Book Company’s Fireside Lounge.
Collins is the author of “Death of a Writer” and “The Keepers of Truth,” which was named to the Man Booker Prize in Fiction’s shortlist. His novel “The Resurrectionists” won the 2003 novel of the year award from The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association.
Collins attended The University of Notre Dame on an athletic scholarship for long distance running. After graduating, he quit the sport for almost a decade, returning after a near mortal stabbing attack in Chicago in the early 1990s.

Currently, Collins is a member of The Irish National 100K Team, which finished eighth at The World 100k (62 miles) Championships in Holland. His running exploits have taken him all over the world to places such as Antarctica, India, Nepal and Algeria.
Collins will answer audience questions and be available to sign books. The event is free and open to the public.
Collins holds a master’s degree in creative writing from Notre Dame and a doctorate in creative writing from The University of Illinois. He has taught at various colleges, including The Art Institute of Chicago and Western Washington University.
