Workshop highlights history, carving of Swedish Dalahäst
April 04, 2008
Swedish artists will share the history and legend of the world-famous Swedish Dalahäst, a wooden horse statue, and demonstrate the process of carving and painting of the wooden creatures on April 12.
The event, “Dalahäst: Symbol of Sweden,” is a three-hour workshop beginning at 1 p.m. in the Scandinavian Cultural Center. It features wood carver Lars Olsson and his cousin, painter Gun Olsson, both from Nusnäs, Sweden.
The Dalahäst originated in the province of Dalama. Today, most of the horses are made in Nusnäs. Carved and paitned by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Susan Young at ext. 7349 or youngse@plu.edu.
