SOAC Week examines art, communication topics

The School of Arts and Communication Week is slated for April 6 to 11.
The annual event features dozens of speakers, workshops and panels that highlight PLU’s communication, art, music and theater departments. Under the theme “SOAC: Creative Community Building on Tradition,” the weeklong series of events showcases see the talents of SOAC’s students, faculty, staff and alumni.
This year includes a host of key events:
Additionally, PLU faculty members are hosting a variety of classes and workshops, from drawing, pottery and playwriting to resume and portfolio tips. Alumni panels are also planned, along with students presenting their experience in SOAC internships. A complete list of events can be found at the SOAC Web site.

- Opening keynote address by Monique Fouquet, vice president of academic administration at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, B.C., April 7 at noon in the University Center’s Regency Room
- Art Walk from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 7 that begins in Ingram Hall’s lobby and tours campus to view the historical and current artwork, includes live performances, rehearsals and stationary pieces
- PLU Tube Student Video Contest April 8 from 3:40 to 5:25 p.m. in Ingram 100
- Presentation by former KOMO 4 news reporter John Sharify on April 8 at 1:45 p.m. in Ingram 109
- MediaLab Open House, showcasing senior Tove Tupper’s documentary “Keeping the Rhythm: The Story of the DASH Center,” April 9 at 8:15 p.m. in Mary Baker Russell Music Center room 306
- Closing remarks by Gary Geddes, noted author, poet and resident of Vancouver, B.C., titled “Operation Trojan Horse: Poetry, Politics and Peace,” April 11 at 2 p.m. in Ingram 100
