Follow corn crop, find answers to life questions
March 14, 2008
MediaLab will host a premiere screening of the documentary film “King Corn” on Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. in room 100 of Ingram Hall.
Two college students set out with director Aaron Woolfe to follow a crop of corn from seed to the dinner plate. The students are searching for why Americans are overweight, why certain foods are cheaper and why life expectancy is headed down.
The 57-minute film is a part of a monthly series that preview Independent Television Service (ITVS) documentaries before they are broadcast on PBS-member stations across the country.
The screening will be followed by a discussion led by PLU environmental ethics professor Kevin O’Brien. The event is free and open to the public. It is presented by ITVS Community Cinema Tacoma, KCTS-TV in Seattle and PLU’s MediaLab, a student-led organization within the School of Arts and Communication.
MediaLab will host an ITVS documentary premiere screening each month through May 2008. Upcoming films include “A Dream in Doubt” in April and “New Year Baby” in May.
