Regional conference to address violence against women
March 07, 2008
PLU’s Men Against Violence program will host a regional conference April 10 and 11 that explores men’s role in ending violence against women.
Titled “He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not: Men’s Role in Ending Violence Against Women,” the event features a keynote address by Sut Jhally, founder of the Media Education Foundation, on April 10, and a lunch address by Ben Atherton-Zeman, spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism, on April 11.
Workshops on April 11 feature organizations and professionals in the field from around the region. A complete list of workshops can be found here.
Only a handful of conferences like this are held annually in the United States, said Jonathan Grove, coordinator of MAV. The event is an opportunity for professionals in the field and others in the community to come together to examine the issue of violence against women and address how to end it.
Due to space restrictions, registration will be limited to the first 200 people. There is no registration cost for PLU students and the rates are discounted for faculty and staff to $10 before March 15 and $15 after that date.
