Sign up now for amateur radio operator course in April
February 28, 2008
An amateur radio licensing class will be offered on campus this April.
The course is open to students, faculty, administrators and staff. Only 10 students will be accommodated, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The class will meet Wednesday afternoons in April from 4 to 5 p.m. in Facilities Management’s conference room. Classes will be held April 2, 9, 16 and 23. Course materials will be provided without charge.
The course will prepare and license volunteers to operate PLU’s amateur radio station, W7PLU. It is part of the PLU Emergency Operations Center.
Those interested in participating in the class can email w7plu@plu.edu. Campus community members who are already licensed as amateur radio operators (technician, general or extra class) are also asked to contact the station at the above e-mail address.
The amateur radio station is co-chaired by Rob Benton (W7VB), automobile mechanic in facilities, and Douglas E. Oakman (AD7AV), religion professor and dean of humanities. KPLU’s engineer Nick Winter (K7MO) is the station trustee.
