Father seeks prodigal son in spring play
February 28, 2008

Weeks of stage combat training and rehearsal give an authentic air to the sword fighting scenes in the theatre department’s production of the “The Illusion.”
Adapted by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner, the play is a modern rendering of Pierre Corneille’s neoclassical French comedy “L’Illusion Comique.” It follows a contrite father seeking news of his prodigal son from a sorcerer.
The magician conjures three episodes from the young man’s life, with each scene finding the boy in slightly different worlds where names change and allegiances shift. As the strange tale reaches its conclusion, the father learns the ultimate truth about his child.
The spring play opens Thursday, March 6 with a $2 student preview at 8 p.m. in Eastvold Auditorium. Performances are March 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. and March 16 at 2 p.m. The cost is $5 for the PLU community and $8 for general admission. Tickets are available through the Campus Concierge at ext. 7411.
