New faculty books
February 14, 2008
Two humanities professors have new books out.
Assistant English professor Rick Barot’s second book, "Want,” was published this month by Sarabande Books. The collection of poems is concerned with the way seeing creates desire, and desire creates the world and somehow, destroys it too.
Religion professor Samuel Torvend’s newest book “Luther and the Hungry Poor: Gathered Fragments,” will be released on March 20.
Published by Augsburg Press, the book explores how Martin Luther and the early Reformation church responded to hunger, poverty and insecurity. Torvend combs through Luther’s early writings to see how he related to these issues, and in effect, corrects longstanding distortions.
