Nominations sought for May Commencement speakers

February 14, 2008

The President’s Office is currently soliciting nominations from faculty and staff for student speakers to talk at May Commencement.

The tradition for student speakers at the commencement exercises began in 2006. These students represent their graduating class, and their remarks augment those of the primary speaker.

Students should characterize the mission of the university as a person educated for a life of “thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care,” and be articulate and able to engage a large audience. Students must also participate in May Commencement.

Nominations should be submitted to the President’s Office by March 7. Students who are nominated will be invited to submit an application and resume, and the speakers will be selected from these applicants.

Nomination forms were mailed to all employees through campus mail. For more information, or a nomination form, contact the President’s Office at ext. 7101.
