University Chorale wraps up winter tour

January 25, 2008

The University Chorale will wrap up its 2008 Winter Tour to California with a homecoming concert on Friday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. in Lagerquist Concert Hall.

The performance features Steven Zopfi as conductor and guest artist Paul Tegels, an internationally acclaimed organ and harpsichord recitalist who serves as university organist.

The program includes Britten’s “Festival Te Deum,” composed for the 1944 centenary of St. Mark's Church in Swindon, England, Meredith Monk’s “Astronaut Anthem” from the composer’s science-fiction opera “The Games,” as well as music by Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Hassler and others.

The University Chorale is one of seven choral ensembles at PLU. It is made up of 47 undergraduates, primarily freshmen and sophomores, who are selected by audition to be part of the group. The group has toured extensively and performed at the Northwest Convention of the American Choral Directors.

Admission is $8 for general admission, $5 for senior citizens, $3 for alumni and free for PLU students, faculty and staff.
