Choose a new commute for a new year
January 25, 2008
For those still looking for a New Year’s resolution, PLU’s Commute Smart program suggests changing your mode of transportation to work.
Commute Smart rewards employees who find alternative ways to get to work. These include walking, biking, taking the bus or participating in a carpool. The program also encourages other work options, such as compressed work-week schedules and working from home.
The Commute Smart program rewards employees who find alternative ways to get to work at least once a week. The rewards include LuteBucks and quarterly prize drawings.
Participating in the Relax Rewards program is as easy as filling out a monthly calendar, specifying the days you used an alternative transportation method to get to work and then submitting it to human resources.

A few commute options include:
- Taking the bus. Qualified employees and students are eligible for a discount up to $49 on monthly bus passes.
- Joining a vanpool. Pierce Transit provides the van, insurance and gas, and you pay a fare based on your round trip mileage and the number of people in the van. Vans hold from 5-15 people. For more information, call 253-983-2724.
- Starting a carpool. Visit rideshareonline.com to find a carpool partner that works and lives in the same area as you. Register with Campus Safety to park in the designated carpool space.
- Walking or biking to campus.
