Wang Center film series on global health continues

January 25, 2008

The Wang Center for International Programs has partnered with various campus organizations to present a film series focused on global health issues.

The series continues this week with “¡Salud!” on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. in Ingram 100. It is sponsored by the Spanish Wing in Hong Hall.

The film examines the pressing health issues facing the world today by following some of the 28,000 Cuban health professionals currently serving in 68 countries. It also highlights the 30,000 international medical students in the country, including 100 from the United States.

Upcoming films in the series include:
  • “Lumo” on Thursday, Feb. 7 in The Cave, sponsored by the Women’s Center and Hope ‘Scopes
  • “A Closer Walk” on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in The Cave, sponsored by Students for Peace
  • “Rx for Survival ‘The Heroes’ or ‘Delivering the Goods’” on Wednesday, Feb. 20 in The Cave, sponsored by the Biology Club and ASPLU-HUMP

The film series leads up to the Wang Center’s symposium “Advances in Global Health by Non-Governmental Organizations” slated for Feb. 21 and 22. The symposium includes speeches by Stephen Lewis, formerly the Special Envoy to U.N. Secretary Kofi Annan, and alum William Foege, a senior fellow at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
