Garfield Commons’ filling up

January 03, 2008
Garfield Commons’ filling up

Soon Farrelli’s Wood Fire Pizza, Desert Sun Tanning and Garfield Book Company at PLU will be joined by a slew of new shops.

Most of the remaining tenants of Garfield Commons are busy at work, transforming their empty storefronts into unique establishments. The newest addition to the list of tenants is a Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in the corner space.

If all goes according to plan, Emerald City Smoothies, Pita Pit and Tight Cuts hair salon will likely open by the end of January or early February, said Mark Mulder, director of auxiliary services. The tax service and Origin 23 (formerly Firehouse Coffee) should open by the end of February.

Mulder predicts the new restaurants won’t take away business from other Garfield Street restaurants.

“Garfield Street has so many great eating options,” he said. “These new restaurants will just add to it and make it even more of a destination.”
