Procedures for stormy weather, campus closures
November 30, 2007
When stormy weather creates hazardous travel conditions, university employees and students are urged to use caution and personal discretion when traveling.
In extreme weather situations, classes may be canceled and/or the university closed. A determination will be made by 6 a.m. for morning and afternoon classes, and by 1 p.m. for evening classes and activities. The PLU homepage will be updated with closure information or you can call the campus closure hotline at 253-535-7100 for information regarding the status of PLU’s hours of operation.
Notice will also be given to local television and radio stations, and information about most K-12 and colleges can be found at www.schoolreport.org.
FACULTY: In the event of a cancellation or closure, or if you are unable to travel safely to campus when classes are NOT cancelled, communicate quickly with your students by leaving an alternate greeting on your voice-mail extension. Please refer here for procedures to change a greeting. If you are going to use this form of communication, please inform your students beforehand.
STUDENTS: Off campus students needing temporary housing during hazardous weather may contact Campus Safety at ext. 7441. Students will be offered a temporary stay in an empty residence hall room or lounge.
All faculty, staff and students commuting are encouraged to keep emergency kits in their vehicles.
