Smart commuters win prizes
November 16, 2007
PLU’s Commute Smart program recently recognized the winners of the third quarter Relax Rewards program.
Nancy Knudsen, KPLU’s assistant station manager for development, and Ruth Kohler, manager of the Wellness Center, each received a $50 Visa gift card. Laree Winer, administrative assistant in the social sciences division, won a $50 Best Buy gift card.
Eleven PLU employees were also awarded $5 Starbucks gift cards for commuting at least 48 times during the third quarter, which ran from July to August. Recipients included Glenn Cooper, Elise Erickson, Aaron Gerow, Paul Davis, Mary Andrick, John Kaniss, Susan McDonald, Sheila Hinderer, Russ Edington, Debi Morrow and Winer.
The Commute Smart program rewards employees who find alternative ways to get to work. These include walking, biking, taking the bus or participating in a carpool. The program also encourages other work options, such as compressed work-week schedules and working from home.
The rewards include LuteBucks and quarterly prize drawings. Participating in the Relax Rewards program is as easy as filling out a monthly calendar, specifying the days you used an alternative transportation method to get to work and then submitting it to human resources.
Along with the prizes, participation in the program boasts other rewards: employees with registered carpools can park in special parking spaces; PLU pays $49 toward a $54 monthly bus pass for qualified individuals; and there are always the health benefits of walking or biking.
