ROTC staff member to speak at Veterans Day celebration

PLU will host its annual Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 12 at noon in Lagerquist Concert Hall.
The celebration features guest speaker retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Rahal, who currently is the human resource administrator for the PLU Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). The event also includes the ROTC Color Guard and performances by PLU Brass and soloist Michelle Blauman.
Born and raised in Canada, Rahal moved to the United States in 1964 with his parents and four siblings. He enlisted in the Army in January 1970 and served for 21 years as a personnel sergeant, protocol non-commissioned officer and Army recruiter.
During his career, Rahal was stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska, Fort Irwin in California, Fort Shafter in Hawaii, Fort Dix in New Jersey and twice at Fort Lewis in Washington.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, and Overseas Ribbons and Recruiter Badge with three gold stars.
A reception of cake and coffee will follow the ceremony. The event is sponsored by the PLU Administrative Staff Council and is free and open to the public.
