Danish ensemble to perform eclectic repetoire
October 12, 2007
The Danish ensemble Wood ‘N’ Flutes will perform on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Scandinavian Cultural Center.
Musicians Vicki Boeckman, Gertie Johnsson and Pia Brinch Jensen make up the trio and have been performing together since 1996. Their eclectic repertoire spans over 800 years of music and includes haunting medieval melodies, emotion-packed baroque sonatas and energetic works by contemporary composers.
In concert, the trio creates an experience of aural and visual beauty by interweaving music with poetry and text, and their creative use of the performance space involves the listener in unique and untraditional ways. For example, during the piece “Fløjteskov”(Flute Forest), the musicians to stand in three opposite corners of a room, so the audience can experience the sounds as they would in a forest.
A reception will follow the performance. General admission to the show is $10, or $8 for members of the Scandinavian Cultural Center. Admission for PLU students is free. For more information, contact Susan Young at ext. 7349.
