Holocaust studies chair endowed at PLU
PLU received a one million dollar endowment to establish a professorship in Holocaust studies. As the endowment grows, funding will be used for student research grants. Donors of the endowment include Kurt and Pam Mayer, Joe and Gloria Mayer, Natalie Mayer-Yeager, Nancy Powell, Carol Powell Heller and Harry Heller.

Artist Becky Frehse’s work was on display at the University Gallery from October 24 to November 16. Frehse was a participant in the Tacoma Art Commission’s Studio Tours held during Art at Work month.

After college, she thought, ‘now I can do something’
NurseWeek magazine recently awarded Marguerite Samms with a nurse of the year award. Samms received her nursing degree from PLU. She currently works as director of educational services in the Institute for Learning and Development for MultiCare Health System and Good Samaritan Hospital of Tacoma.

Singer makes reality TV finals
Gospel singer Crystal Aikin has moved into the final round of Black Entertainment Television’s “Sunday Best,” a gospel music reality-TV show. Aikin, a PLU alum and emergency room nurse at St. Joseph hospital in Tacoma, is excited to give back. Aikin recently performed live on campus.
