Tutoring improves life for Somali refugees

A collaborative effort between St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by The Narrows and a group of 19 PLU students benefited local Somali Bantu refugee children. The students taught the children literacy, math and language skills.

Paying tribute with laughter

PLU sophomore Paul Richter was among a group of four Heritage High School (Vancouver, WA) alumni to perform “No refunds” in tribute to a friend who died in a car crash. The group’s sketch comedy raised funds for the Nichole Sanders Thespian Scholarship.

Tacomans dive into filmmaking

A group of friends who met at PLU and later formed Dead Gentlemen Productions is profiled in light of The Grand Cinema’s 72-hour film competition. Their first production, “Demon Hunters,” was a small budget ($5,000) horror spoof shot on campus. Currently, they are putting the finishing touches on “The Gamers: Dorkness Rising.”

With the Web linking him to watchful eyes, no graffiti is safe

Alumnus James Lamb is working to stop the spread of graffiti in Federal Way by photographing and digitally mapping new instances of graffiti. Lamb has documented more than 100 locations in an effort to bring awareness to the problem.

It’s ‘good times’ for lost hiker

A search party rescued alumnus Chris Blackledge after he got lost near Snoqualmie Pass. Blackledge was on an overnight camping trip with friends to view a meteor shower. He was lost in the woods for two days.
