Exploring the Northwest
September 06, 2007

The largest freshman class in PLU’s history was introduced to the Pacific Northwest during “On the Road” held Saturday, Sept. 1.
The annual event is part of Orientation Weekend. In one of more than 30 day trips offered by Student Involvement and Leadership, small groups of new students were whisked off campus to experience the region through outdoor adventures, service projects and tours of the local art scene. Faculty, staff and returning students led the trips.
The students pictured here participated in the Habitat for Humanity service project. Along with painting and caulking duties, the students helped install the roofing materials and hung doors.
Other day trips included hiking to the Olympic Hot Springs in Olympic National Park, white water rafting on the Tieton River, a day at Seattle’s musical festival Bumbershoot and working with the Puget Creek Restoration Society to restore native vegetation and trails and eradicate non-native plants.
