Join in the celebration for new bookstore

August 31, 2007

A dedication ceremony to mark the opening of the Garfield Book Company at PLU will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at noon.

The bookstore is the anchor tenant of Garfield Commons, a new retail development at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Garfield Street. The dedication ceremony is part of a larger event to celebrate the opening of Garfield Commons. The celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes special promotions at the bookstore and Garfield Street restaurants.

Garfield Book Company is a unique combined college and community bookstore. In addition to items typically carried by college bookstores, the store carries products for the greater Parkland community, area school districts and home-schoolers.

The store includes a large general book section, a children’s learning nook and a wide range of apparel. Additionally, the store offers fair trade global products and Pacific Northwest gifts.

Visitors are invited to join in the celebration and grab a bite to eat at Garfield Street restaurants. Currently, Farrelli’s Gourmet Wood Fire Pizza is the only restaurant open at the Commons. Other businesses slated to occupy space include Origin 23° Coffee Roaster, Desert Sun Tanning Salon, Emerald City Smoothie, Pita Pit and Uni Teriyaki.

Other Garfield Street restaurants include Marzano Italian Restaurant, Northern Pacific Coffee Company (NPCC), The Tea Leaf, Jambalaya, Reyna’s Mexican Restaurant, Chopstix and Lieu’s Chinese Restaurant.

The celebration is made possible by PLU and Lorig Associates. Lorig Associates co-developed the property with PLU and acts as property manager.
