Stumo named new VP

Karl Stumo has been named the new vice president for admission and enrollment services. His appointment took effect June 1.

Stumo is beginning his fourth year at PLU. He was originally hired as the dean of admission and financial aid, and last year, he was named the associate vice president for admission and financial aid.

“I’m thrilled to be able to work with my new colleagues in student services, and to have a direct relationship with the enrollment process in each one of those areas is an exciting new challenge for me,” Stumo said. “I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

Stumo’s new position is not new to PLU. It was last held by Laura Polcyn, who left it for her current position as the assistant to the president. At the time, the position’s responsibilities were temporarily added to those of the vice president for student life.

With his appointment, the admission office, financial aid and student services will once again be under the same umbrella, a strategy that has worked well in the past, Stumo said. His responsibilities include overseeing the three enrollment areas that touch both new and continuing students, as well as implementing enrollment initiatives.

“I have felt incredible levels of both personal and professional support from all corners of campus in the recruitment and enrollment of students to PLU,” Stumo said. “It’s the most satisfying part, both personally and professionally, of being at PLU.”

Stumo holds bachelor degrees in English and communication from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. He earned a master’s degree in education leadership and policy from Iowa State University.

Stumo and his wife, Nicole, have two children, Bryn, 4, and Karsten, 3.
