DiPietro, Loomis win top conference honors

May 18, 2007

Senior Joe DiPietro was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season, and was one of 12 Lutes named to the all-conference teams.

In addition, Lute head coach Geoff Loomis was named the Northwest Conference Coach of the Year for the first time. Loomis led the team to a 21-3 record and its first conference championship in 53 years. In five seasons at PLU, Loomis has compiled a 115-80 record.

“We have a lot of honorees and it reflects the great season that our guys put together as a team,” Loomis said. “Joe DiPietro being awarded the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year for a second straight season is truly an achievement that will not easily be repeated.”

Joining DiPietro on the All-Northwest Conference first team are junior pitcher Brett Brunner; sophomore relief pitcher Hunter Simpson; sophomore catcher Brandon Sales; sophomore first baseman Jordan Post; senior third baseman Jared Simon; and senior centerfielder Ryan Thorne.

PLU players named to the second team include senior right fielder Justin Whitehall and senior pitcher Kael Fisher. Senior shortstop Logan Andrews, senior outfielder Tyler Green, sophomore designated hitter Kris Hansen and sophomore relief pitcher Dylan Stanford received honorable mention picks.

The Lutes, 32-7 this season, will make its first-ever NCAA postseason appearance when it participates in one of eight NCAA Division III regional tournaments scheduled for May 16-20. Follow the team's progress here.
