Chem prof Davis wins local 10K
May 18, 2007
While hundreds of other runners labored over marathon and half-marathon distances during the first Tacoma City Marathon on Mother’s Day, chemistry professor Paul Davis spared himself the pain and cruised to victory in the men’s 10-kilometer event.
Davis finished the 6.2-mile race in 35:04.
Davis said the race was a good tune-up for the upcoming Sound to Narrows 12K on June 9.
Although Davis laughingly rated his chances of coming in first in Sound to Narrows as “nil,” he is hoping to finish in the top 10. He said the course is tougher – and slightly longer – than in the Tacoma City Marathon event.
Competitive athletics aren’t just a hobby for Davis, they are also the subject of research.
This summer, Davis will be continuing a research project he has been working on with students for the past several years involving testing for performance-enhancing drugs like those that have rocked competitive cycling over the past several years.
