Theatre department tackles “Cabaret” in spring musical
May 04, 2007
The theater department’s spring musical, “Cabaret,” begins its two-weekend run on Thursday, May 10 at 8 p.m. in Eastvold Auditorium.
The 1966 Broadway hit musical is set in Berlin from 1929 to 1930 during the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. The story focuses on the developing relationship between a young English girl, a poor American writer and an attractive Berlin smuggler against the backdrop of the Kit Kat Club.
Directed by theater professor Jeff Clapp, the production features more than 30 actors, including Justin Huertas, Tristan Morris, Julianna Brei-Crawley, Mike Engh, Kirsten Helland, Travis Tingvall and Eddie Dorn in the principle roles.
The play is based on Christopher Isherwood’s novel, “Goodbye to Berlin.” During its initial run in 1966, it received eight Tony awards. The show features some adult language and adult situations.
Performances are slated for May 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m. and on May 20 at 2 p.m. All performances are in Eastvold Auditorium.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for the PLU community, students, seniors and children. To reserve tickets, call Campus Concierge at 253-535-7411.
