Variety of events celebrate Diversity Week

Diversity Week brings a variety of educational and entertaining events that celebrate diversity on campus through dance, discussions and activities. The week began on Saturday and runs through Friday, April 20.
The week’s activities include a multi-cultural dance workshop called “Shake that thang” on Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in the South Hall lounge. At the workshop, students can learn a number of dances from around the world, including hip hop, swing and African dance. Students can continue to practice the new dance moves at the “Back in the Day, the ‘70s Way” event at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 in the South Hall lounge.

Diversity Week is sponsored by the Black Student Union, the religion department, Campus Ministry, Hope ‘Scopes Project, the Jewish Club, the Diversity Center and ASPLU.

Monday, April 16
- Reunion for students who participated in the Fall 2006 Students of Color retreat at 5 p.m. in the Diversity Center
- Showing and discussion of the film, “My Name is Malcolm,” at 6 p.m. in Ingram 100
Tuesday, April 17
- “Shake that Thang,” dance from around the world event at 7 p.m. in the South Hall lounge
Wednesday, April 18
- National Day of Silence
Thursday, April 19
- The Hope ‘Scopes Project, a student group that provides used microscopes to poor schools in developing countries, will give a presentation at 5 p.m. in Hong International Hall
- Take Chicago-style step lessons at 6 p.m. in South Hall
- “Back In the Day, the ‘70s Way” party at 7 p.m. in the South Hall lounge
Friday, April 20
- The “Diversity Day Finale” will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Red Square
- “Being Jewish @ PLU” event at 2 p.m. in Xavier 201
